Learning to read is a very heterogeneous process. In addition to the often rigid teaching materials, initial small reading tasks are needed that can be used flexibly and ideally have a high visual component. This way, beginner readers can work well with them and stay motivated. The present volume for reading training and promoting reading comprehension at the word level offers many of these visual reading exercises. The numerous clear and child-friendly illustrations encourage connecting pictures with words, matching words with images, or finding what has been read in the pictures. This also provides access for less proficient readers or children who do not have German as their native language. Repeated and simply structured tasks, often illustrated with examples, facilitate independent individual work. The volume can also be ideally used alongside the second one.
