The eight-volume lexicon "Historical Basic Concepts" (Historical Lexicon of Political and Social Language in Germany, edited by Otto Brunner, Werner Conze, and Reinhart Koselleck, 1972 - 1997) is considered one of the most important international interdisciplinary standard works on the history of historical concepts. Leading scholars from various faculties, including Ernst-Wolfgang Böckenförde, Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht, Reinhart Koselleck, and Christian Meier, examine the central guiding concepts of the political and social world. They illuminate traditional pre-revolutionary terms such as "society" and "state," neologisms like "communism," "fascism," and "antisemitism," as well as vocabulary that gained significance only in modern times, including terms like "class," "need," "progress," and "history." The more than 100 selected terms are analyzed in terms of their relevance and usage.
