The later Middle Ages were a time of numerous upheavals and attempts at shaping various phases. The first phase is addressed in "The Time of Drafts (1273 - 1347)." Following the downfall of the Staufer dynasty, the new beginnings in many areas of life—alongside politics, also in settlement, urban development, science, literature, and art—brought about transformations and reconceptions of old traditions. However, this momentum often remained unfinished and gave way to a new, less tumultuous phase by the middle of the 14th century. The portrayal outlines seven exciting decades that ultimately remained, in many ways, a torso of history, spanning from the historical upheavals of the 13th century to the Black Death in the mid-14th century.
