Product details

In the trenches, World War I seemed to Ernst Jünger primarily an adventure - in retrospect, an "incomparable school" of life. For the first time, this volume gathers his smaller writings from the war years, such as "The Grove 125" and "Fire and Blood," critically edited and commented upon. Complementing the "War Diary 1914-1918" and the historical-critical edition of "Storm of Steel," "War as an Inner Experience" unites Jünger’s most important autobiographical writings and essays on World War I, which are relevant for understanding the "poet-soldier." For Jünger, World War I becomes a paradigm of modernity itself, characterized by its division into various ideological camps and an unprecedented aggressiveness. He later subjects this position to scrutiny in reflections such as his speech at Verdun. Helmuth Kiesel creates.
