The fifth edition of "War Children and War Grandchildren in Psychotherapy" is published with an important aspect added: The new chapter "Foreign and Unwanted in One's Own Country: Flight and Trauma in German History" addresses the history and its psychological consequences for 14 million people who fled and were displaced from their homeland immediately after the end of World War II. Their painful experiences continue to resonate and also influence our treatment of today's refugees. The terror and ideology of the Nazi era, the horrors of World War II, and the post-war period marked by mass displacements, hunger, and deprivation have left deep scars in both individual and collective memory. Much of this is conscious, yet there are also feelings of shame, guilt, and fear of death.
