The second Paris diary covers the period from February 1943 to August 1944, during which Jünger relocates from Paris back to Kirchhorst near Hanover as the Allied troops advance. The writings created there conclude with the arrival of the American soldiers. The hut in the vineyard was initially published in 1958 under the title "Years of Occupation" and describes Jünger’s experiences during the occupation period. Like Jünger’s debut "In Steel Tempests," the writings were equally successful and controversial, particularly when he describes the bombing of Paris as an aesthetic spectacle.
