This illustrative overview of Latin American literature presents the main literary trends from both historical and thematic perspectives. A second part is dedicated to nine individual portraits of the most significant authors, from Borges to Garcia Marquez to Vargas Llosa. Following this, the development of Latin American literature is outlined in the four major regional areas (Central America, the Caribbean, etc.). A look at non-narrative genres concludes the presentation.
