These miniatures are idylls, in the original concrete sense of the word, that is, little pictures, but ones that pleasantly fall out of the frame. Some resemble votive images, where the allegorical is always twisted into the ironic or drastic, leading to thorough and incisive social analyses of almost prophetic quality.
