"From outside the forest I come here, I must tell you, it's very Christmassy!" The Christmas festival is just around the corner. The Christ Child peeks out from the heavenly gate and urges Knecht Ruprecht to hurry. He has almost finished his work; he just needs to visit one last village on his journey. So he sets off and reports on golden lights atop the fir trees and the festive atmosphere everywhere. In the village, he meets a father and asks him about the behavior of his children: "Now speak, how do I find it here inside? Are they good children, are they naughty children?" In the end, Knecht Ruprecht is convinced that they are kind children and distributes his gifts: "So take the Christ Child's greetings, cakes and apples, apples and nuts." Knecht Ruprecht's "From outside the forest I come here..." is still recited by countless children on Christmas Eve every year.
