Global warming of the Earth's atmosphere is rightly associated with the greenhouse effect, which in turn is due to the continuous increase in CO2 concentration. While industrialized nations contribute the most to this increase, countries in the so-called Third World are also significantly involved, as people there primarily use wood for cooking warm meals. The associated deforestation has been occurring at a rate that is significantly faster than natural regrowth and reforestation efforts combined for many years. Solar cookers have proven to be an adequate approach to address this problem in recent years. However, high material costs and complex construction present significant challenges for both users and development workers with a multiplier function.
