When Volume 1 of the eponymous book was published in 2001, few could have guessed that it would reach seven editions in a short time and become a classic of historical literature about Scotland in the German-speaking world. However, it was not possible in this book to cover all the family histories of the most important clans. This content gap is filled by the now available Volume 2, which primarily focuses on the clans MacDougall, the Sutherlands, the MacLarens, and the MacFarlanes. In addition to the family histories, the book includes excursions and anecdotes about the end of the first earldom of Lennox, the rise of Somerled, the Battle of Harlaw, and much more. The volume is rounded off, as is customary, with descriptions of travel opportunities to many historical sites.
