It is a small sensation: In the summer of 2021, a comprehensive and previously unknown notebook from the student circle of Franz Liszt emerged. The author is Heinrich Lutter (1854-1937), who was Liszt's student from 1876 until Liszt's death in 1886. The notebook contains meticulous records from Liszt's piano lessons. With extraordinary precision, it creates a picture of Liszt's interpretation and teaching style. The subjects of the lessons include not only Liszt's own works but also works by Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, and many other composers.

In this edition, the notebook is presented to the public for the first time. The edition reproduces the original text and serves as a treasure trove for practical use as well as for musicological studies. Additionally, by coincidence, a substantial collection of letters from Heinrich Lutter to one of his students surfaced in 2023, providing an intimate glimpse into his personality.
