The project examines the phenomenon of "mask" from various perspectives: mask as a phenomenon as old as humanity, mask in ancient tragedy, mask as (theatrical) play, the significance of masks during Carnival, mask as a second - or even first - face, mask as a form of presenting one's personality, the relationship between mask and social role, and finally, text as a mask. The fundamental question and goal of the endeavor is philosophical: Is there something common that runs through these various "maskings"? Does this theme provide us with insight into our understanding of reality, our perception of God, the world, and humanity? And last but not least: What consequences arise from the insights gained for our actions, our interactions with others, and our encounters with reality?.
