In Kafka's texts, photographs are repeatedly mentioned, as if they possess something that his writing cannot. Kafka feels challenged by this medium, which poses both a threat and a productive sting to his writing. The focus of this study is thus a dual phenomenon: on one hand, Kafka's literary interest in the other medium, photography. On the other hand, it examines how photography becomes a catalyst for a different kind of writing, one that, in engagement and competition with photographic methods, transcends its own boundaries. I.
