Construction processes of gender are linked to the reproduction and modeling of emotional states, bodily performances, and interpretative patterns. Adolescents experiment with gender norms and their transgressions in their social spaces, either rejecting or solidifying them. Unconscious dynamics and implicit notions of order play an important role in this process. The contributions in this volume present findings from empirical studies that investigate the gender constructions of adolescents in scenes, classrooms, and institutions of non-formal youth education. A novel perspective is to understand construction processes as part of complex educational processes. The content covers youth cultural scenes and peer groups, gender performances by adolescents, the impact and reception of media representations among youth, as well as gender portrayals in manga.
