A reviewer called this commentary a "commentary worth reading." The third edition aims to make it even more readable. It has not only been linguistically revised but also shortened, allowing it to be published in a single volume. The primary goal of the commentary remains: a renewal of the Christian-Jewish relationship, coupled with a non-polemical, understanding, and theologically deepened perception of the Jewish people. This is not an ideological narrowing but is required by the text. The Gospel of John—like other New Testament writings—is based on the Jewish Bible and was created in a Jewish context. Speaking of "Christianity" in the 1st century is simply anachronistic. In interpreting the polemical statements made in an intra-Jewish dispute, the commentary takes into account not only this context.
