Many younger refugee children manage to keep up surprisingly quickly in German schools. However, adolescents and young adults in flight are given very little time for education due to their age and limited prospects for staying, and the education provided often has questionable content and unrealistic topics that hardly relate to the living conditions and challenges of fleeing. Additionally, access to vocational training is made more difficult for young refugees, and they rarely succeed in making a swift and successful transition from school to employment. This is where the book comes in: Based on the specific life situations of refugees, it outlines curricula, pedagogical concepts, and school programs that offer newcomers in the education system well-arranged fields of experience for understanding reality and their environment, as well as coping with everyday life.
