Product details

Karl Martell is primarily remembered by posterity for his military successes. His victory at the Battle of Poitiers (732) against the Arabs particularly contributed to his myth as the savior of Christian Europe. At the same time, the mayor of the palace is credited with a significant role in the rise of the Carolingians to kingship and empire. Starting from the political conditions and the background of Charles, the narrative follows the establishment, consolidation, and shaping of his rule in the Frankish Empire and its border regions until his sole reign from 737 to 741. The account of his campaigns, his church and missionary policies, and his activities in the conquered territories vividly illustrates how Charles Martel was able to assert himself against the political challenges of his time. The fame of Charles Martel is primarily based on his military achievements.
