Self-harm, such as cutting, burning, or hitting one's head against a wall, represents an important form of behavioral abnormalities. Such behavior is often found in mental illnesses associated with (traumatic) stress, including borderline personality disorder, as well as in patients with post-traumatic stress disorder or depression. The book spans the spectrum from the neurobiological and psychological foundations to the treatment of self-harming behavior.
