Decision-makers in organizations and in business practice must confront the increasing significance of complexity. Typically, they respond by streamlining processes and relying on simplifying assumptions. However, this approach, which follows a complexity-reducing paradigm, has repeatedly exacerbated business challenges in the past. Taking into account complexity science models, Henning Bandte analyzes the phenomenon of complexity from an organizational theory perspective. The focus is on the necessity of a paradigm shift to adequately manage complexity in organizations. It becomes clear that there is currently no organizational theory approach that can adequately explain and describe complexity in organizations.
