Johannes Agnoli describes in his famous work the process of the involution of democratic states, institutions, and parties into anti-democratic forms, a regression of bourgeois democracy towards more domination, subjugation, and dependence of the state on capital, leading to the development of an authoritarian state. "Agnoli's treatise is a small masterpiece - despite all the distress and bitterness, one often laughs out loud while reading it at the precision and elegance with which he hits the mark again," judged Sebastian Haffner in 1968 in the magazine Konkret. Agnoli's analysis of the state, which guarantees the objective coercive nature of reproduction, and the convincing results of his study remain just as relevant today.
