Product details

Care-Revolution, Computer Socialism, Democratic Confederalism, Communism 2.0, Upcoming Sustainability, No Border, Right to the City, Post-Growth, Solidarity Cities, Socialist Education... What utopian ideas and approaches are associated with these terms from current political debates? Here, individuals from critical academia and political movements, as well as from networks, trade unions, associations, and organizations, share their insights on the question of concrete utopias today. This volume is a continuation and deepening of the book "Utopia: From Novel to Concept" published in 2015. Therefore, it starts with the functions of utopia: "The function of concrete utopia is the subjective insight into objective possibilities." "Nationalism is not an alternative – a liberated society is," is a sentiment expressed at protests in Germany against the New Right. How can liberation be anticipated in utopias? According to Ernst Bloch, concrete utopias are neither detail-obsessed future novels nor isolated communities, but rather societal perspectives as a whole. The question is about "how we want to live." Contributors to this anthology include: Jan Hoff ("Autonomy as an Emancipatory Principle"), Korrektiv Negativ Leipzig ("Emancipatory Theory at the University"), Gisela Notz ("Utopia and Cooperatives"), Joachim Beerhorst ("Work and Utopia"), Interventionistische Linke Hannover ("Socializing the Health System"), Boris Heile ("Post-Growth as Concrete Utopia"), Hans-Ernst Schiller ("Bloch and the Utopia of the 20th Century"), Association debut d'histoire ("Communism as Concrete Utopia"), and Bini Adamczak in conversation about "Utopia and Mourning Work"...
