The 12th volume of the legendary sailing sports library originated from the desire to write a book about the self-construction of sailing dinghies. During the course of the work, the author increasingly recognized that a serious self-builder must possess not only practical craftsmanship skills but also a certain understanding of the strength characteristics of the boat hull and the construction principles of suitable boat designs for self-building. Additionally, there are requirements for complete familiarity with the terminology of individual boat elements, the ability to read construction and design drawings, as well as knowledge of purely sailing-related matters. This volume summarizes everything that could be considered not only as preparatory knowledge for the self-builder but also what primarily interests the sailing enthusiast.
