After two decades of negotiations, the metal and electrical industry has concluded framework agreements on remuneration (ERA), which standardize previously different regulations for workers and employees regarding the determination of base pay and performance compensation. The collective bargaining parties emphasize that they have established a contemporary and fair evaluation system that meets the needs of businesses. However, employees and works councils often perceive the job evaluations based on the new system as unfair, especially when they result in losses. A closer examination shows, however, that the causes are often not the provisions of the ERA, but rather the fact that its implementation in companies is being used for a comprehensive recalibration of base salaries according to the standards of the industry collective agreement.
