I resist being pigeonholed; I do not want my work to be defined by a personal style, because it is primarily not about me. It is about a style that is appropriate to the subject matter. In this respect, a definitive categorization is also not possible: Is it artistic or is it documentary? Photography has changed; it has been liberated from purely documentary approaches, even if it may still have such an intention or may appear to be so at first and perhaps even at second glance. Of course, Fire Station II is somewhat of a documentary work, but it is never solely documentary. Because the work contains a strong narrative element, I want to tell a story or the story of a story. Fortunately, photography today can free itself from the obligation to be categorized.
