Corruption is a serious threat to state and economic systems. This book examines perceptions and evaluations of corruption, as well as justification strategies and reporting behavior in three different areas: business, public administration, and social services. The causal factors of corruption investigated include personal factors such as organizational cynicism, psychopathy, and intelligence, as well as situational factors like the size of the benefit, the duration of corrupt relationships, or groups of beneficiaries of corrupt actions. One finding of the research is that corrupt behavior is becoming viewed as a minor offense, despite the public condemnation of corruption. However, the interdisciplinary study also offers practical approaches for corruption prevention and the promotion of active reporting behavior.
