This doctoral thesis at the University of St. Gallen (HSG) develops a structural model of disease-oriented centers at university hospitals. The model is based on a cybernetic-constructivist perspective and insights from extensive case studies in Eusoma-accredited university breast centers. It illustrates the structures that an ideal-type center should possess for optimal patient care, as well as the key challenges in the change process. Thus, the book provides healthcare practitioners with valuable guidance for designing university hospital structures that promote the emergence of disease-oriented behaviors such as interdisciplinarity.
