Lorenz Gallmetzer was an ORF correspondent in Washington and Paris for many years, and he was an alcoholic. He achieved sobriety at Kalksburg, the largest addiction clinic in Europe. There, he met people who, like him, had not given up the fight against addiction. For example, B.S., the respectable wife of an anesthetist, who began drinking after her husband committed suicide. Or C.K., a senior employee who "slipped" into drinking: from social drinking to drinking out of frustration and compensation, leading to a compulsion to drink. Then there's C.P.: abused as a child, she had two violent partners and was forced into prostitution. Amphetamines and alcohol were part of her daily life. These are dramatic stories that Lorenz Gallmetzer tells in this book, not least his own: the successful journalist struggles with his depression.
