This new volume in the series "Collection of Geological Guides" provides an overview of the geology of the island of Crete, which, due to its diverse landscapes and various geological aspects, represents an attractive excursion area in the Mediterranean region. In over 30 excursions that lead to all parts of the island, the distinctive landforms and geological structure, as well as important aspects of stratigraphy and tectonics in this area of Alpine Europe, are explained in detail and with solid grounding. Additionally, numerous botanical peculiarities and interesting locations are highlighted. Many archaeological sites located away from the main tourist paths, which are only briefly mentioned or not at all in common travel guides, can also be explored through the presented excursions. In the general section, alongside geology, the approach is also discussed.
