After the animal stories, the Bernese author Matto Kämpf presents a second charming volume in the series Menschenversand with a crime novel. The crime story is a variation and parody of a typical Swiss crime narrative: a commissioner from the city arrives in a small village and attempts to solve a murder case. He gets to know village life and its representatives, visiting the pastor, the teacher, the mayor, and so on. This setup serves as the backdrop for the absurd and bizarre events that unfold in the crime novel. Although the commissioner appears to be investigating, no real criminal case develops; the murder remains unsolved, and even the identity of the deceased, who is found impaled on a plum tree by a pitchfork at the beginning of the text, remains a mystery.
