Volume 6 of the "Criminal History of Christianity" addresses the High Middle Ages, specifically the 11th and 12th centuries. Central figures of power during this period include: the last Otto, Emperor Henry II, the Saint, who fought three major wars alongside pagans against Catholic Poland; the Salian Henry IV; and the Staufer Frederick I Barbarossa. The consequential papacy of Gregory VII (1073 - 1085), an aggressive "holy Satan," leads to the notorious Investiture Controversy - keyword: Canossa - resulting in the victory of the Holy See over the imperial throne.
