He does not develop a theory of the state; rather, his analyses aim at a critique of political reason. However, this selection from his writings and lectures presents not only the analyst of power mechanisms and formations of knowledge but also the political intellectual Michel Foucault. The volume includes foundational texts on Foucault's political philosophy as well as his statements on topics such as criminal justice, the Iranian Revolution, and the imposition of martial law in Poland.
