William Butler Yeats, awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1923, is considered the most significant Irish poet writing in English. It is all the more astonishing that one of his central works has not yet been translated into German: A Vision, privately printed in January 1926 and published in a revised edition for the public in 1937. "I feel inclined to say that I consider this book to be the book of my books," the poet himself stated. Foster, the leading Yeats biographer, regards the book as the spiritual-philosophical key to Yeats' entire oeuvre. A Vision is the culmination of Yeats' vivid interest in occult and spiritual traditions, which he viewed as a source of symbols and ideas for the poetic tradition. The revised edition from 1937 has been translated into German for the first time by Axel Monte.
