Throughout Bavaria, awareness of local history has gained significance. Cities and communities are increasingly reflecting on their medieval roots, celebrating historical anniversaries, and a culture of historical societies is flourishing. The long-established series 'Handbuch der historischen Stätten' is right on trend here. With the subsequent volumes of the 3rd edition, the handbook for Bavaria has been divided into two volumes: one for Old Bavaria and Swabia, and another for Franconia. This division into two separately usable books benefits travelers by enhancing the convenience of the volumes and allowing for improved readability. A total of 149 regional historians from across Bavaria have authored over 1000 local articles, all of which have been completely newly created. The expertise of the contributors, and often their proximity to the locations they cover, ensure substance and relevance.
