Judge Richter and his sergeant Hong Liang are forced to take refuge in a provincial inn due to a flood. The next day, one of the guests is found murdered. As the situation escalates, the judge takes up residence in the luxurious yet mysterious water castle by Lake Tchou-An, where further strange deaths occur. During his investigations, the judge discovers that the residents are behaving very oddly and seem to be hiding a dark secret.
