1779: William Turner is troubled because the court-martial proceedings against him are pending. It almost feels like a relief when he receives an order to eliminate a base of American privateers. After successfully completing this task with skill and bravery, he sails to New York to have the battle damage on his ship repaired. There, he receives a message from the head of intelligence personally, urging him to eliminate the resident Hinkie, as he has become a traitor. This plunges Turner into a serious moral conflict. Killing someone in battle or a duel is one thing; but assassinating someone from ambush goes against his moral beliefs. A murder case on the Ville de Rouen creates additional problems. How fortunate that Lady Jane is there to comfort him.
