Product details

Art in public spaces is increasingly becoming a soft location factor in urban marketing. The lofty claim of art for all is no longer valid; rather, art functions as an instrument of homogenization and staging in the interest of the prevailing growth coalition. Against this backdrop, the book explores the context of urban development and new urbanity. It develops new criteria for assessment based on the theories of Pierre Bourdieu and Henri Lefebvre, which are then applied to art projects such as "Park Fiction" (Hamburg, since 1995) and "Wochenklausur" (international, since 1993). The interpretations of these artworks open up a perspective for the creation of communicative spaces, thereby complementing the prevailing paradigm of the city.
