Art and philosophy are two fundamental forms of expression of human self-awareness. What distinguishes and what connects them? This question can only be answered by philosophy. It is a fundamental question of philosophy that simultaneously addresses the significance of art for human self-understanding. In doing so, the entire diversity of the arts must be taken into account. Ultimately, philosophical reflection on art leads to the problem of the relationship between truth and beauty. This cannot be clarified within the framework of formalist or radically autonomy-aesthetic art theories. Rather, an anthropological embedding of the fundamental question of the philosophy of art is necessary, without neglecting the formal aspect of art. What, then, does art deal with? And how does it treat its subject? The nature of the creative act and the artistic means required for it.
