This analysis of the works of Konstantin D. Bal'mont (1867-1942) for the first time includes the poetry collections from the period after his emigration as well as prose works in German-speaking Slavic studies. Mysticism emerges as a determining psychological and aesthetic paradigm for Bal'mont's oeuvre. A presentation of relevant traditions of Eastern and Western mysticism allows for a coherent interpretation of the macrotext of 30 poetry collections. The results of the study highlight Bal'mont's significance for Russian symbolism, leading to a revision of well-known descriptive models for this era. Detailed notes on the author's relationship with the music and visual arts of his time place the findings of the work analysis in the broader context of art-religious movements in Europe.
