The introduction is a useful tool for anyone who wants to acquire a solid understanding of grammar in order to competently engage with texts from the linguistic and literary historical period of Early New High German. The role that vernacular incunabula printing played in the development of Common German as a regional high-quality variety has become increasingly evident in recent research. Therefore, the presentation of phenomena related to pronunciation, spelling, morphology, vocabulary, and sentence structure is primarily illustrated with examples from this early phase of book printing. The continuous exemplification using provided, partially facsimiled text examples facilitates self-study of the material.
