Therapy dogs can achieve remarkably positive effects on patients during deployments in nursing homes, children's homes, hospices, or hospitals, as scientifically proven. However, a solid training in various areas is a prerequisite for both the dog and the handler. Only as a trained and well-coordinated team can they be successfully deployed without harming themselves or others. Unfortunately, there are currently no uniform training programs or binding quality standards for this important and responsible activity in Germany. This book provides a current overview of the state of therapy dog work in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, offering a comprehensive look at training opportunities and content for the first time.
