At the beginning of the "Trecento", that crisis-ridden 14th century in the transition from the Middle Ages to modern times, Dante Alighieri wrote his "Commedia" as the sum of his poetic work in the Italian vernacular, which had just become literary, an innovative, even daring artistic journey into the afterworld realms of "Inferno" ("Hell"), "Purgatorio" ("Mount of Purification") and "Paradiso" ("Paradise") permeated by medieval divine order.
Hartmut Köhler was awarded the German-Italian Translator's Prize 2013 for his comprehensively annotated new translation of Dante's "Commedia".
