Georg Lukács, the Hungarian literary theorist and communist who wrote in German, played an important role as a renewer of Marxist philosophy until his death in 1971. He was involved in the Hungarian Soviet Republic in 1919 and the Budapest uprising in 1956. In the 1920s, he was considered a left deviationist and revisionist by the KPD.
