Product details

This textbook on stochastic processes is modular in structure. It adapts to the requirements placed on a cross-border usable school book: one does not necessarily have to start with Chapter 1, the key concept of probability, and end with Chapter 4 on continuous distributions or Chapter 5 on Markov chains. Various teaching paths are feasible. The standard route to the Abitur (German high school diploma) assumes that students have basic stochastic concepts from secondary level I. They should be able to distinguish probabilities from relative frequencies and understand that probabilities are used to predict relative frequencies, while relative frequencies are used to estimate probabilities (keyword: "Experience leads to expectation"), and that they can calculate multi-stage random experiments using the path rule. At this point, one can confidently dive into Chapter 2 on the binomial distribution in stochastic processes.
