The second volume of the series "Palliative Care," developed at the University Institute for Interdisciplinary Research and Continuing Education in Vienna, provides insights into what elderly people desire and need for their final phase of life. It encourages engaging them in conversation and addressing the topics of dying and death. The volume presents models for how organizations can develop resident-oriented care services and what general practitioners need to know for effective, individualized pain management. Encouraging case studies and initiatives from Düsseldorf, Bergen, Vienna, and the Netherlands illustrate how humanity can be maintained until the very end. At the same time, the successful International University Course "Palliative Care" offered by the IFF is introduced.
