This volume deals with education for sustainable development (ESD), which has gained increased visibility in societal awareness through the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development and the subsequent World Action Programme. Productive efforts to anchor ESD can be observed across various educational fields, although these efforts remain (still) very heterogeneous overall (with a lack of systematization and verified findings regarding their effectiveness). The contributions summarize the discourse on the topic in the German-speaking area and discuss the central foundations of ESD in educational fields, as well as issues of anchoring and methodology. They also explore the highlighted importance of trust.
