Language is an essential medium of any teaching. Subject-specific learning can only succeed through and with language. The connection between language and educational success or failure has been known for some time. Therefore, language support must not only take place in German lessons but is also the responsibility of the subject Geography. However, language learning does not mean promoting an additional spectrum alongside subject-specific learning; rather, language and subject-specific learning should go hand in hand. In regular classes, we encounter a linguistically heterogeneous student body that should be addressed in a differentiated manner. In bilingual geography classes, subject content is taught in another language, which also requires linguistic support. Currently, adapted geographic didactic tools are needed in language learning and welcome classes.
