There seems to be an almost infinite variety of translations, adaptations, and interpretations of Lao-Tzu's Tao Te Ching [Dàodéjing]. One of the few good and truly readable translations comes from the pen of Rudolf Backofen, on whose texts this edition of the Dàodéjing is based. The form and expression of these life wisdoms speak for themselves: they are clear, unambiguous, powerful in language, and according to Kisseners, they come closest to the meaning of the original. They require no interpretation or explanation. Lao-Tzu's words are words of wisdom; they transcend all our notions. Lao-Tzu manages to show a path that accommodates all life situations without imposing rules or prohibitions, without dogma or theology. May his wisdom, after over 2500 years, finally lead people to become aware of their spiritual powers and possibilities.
