In laser material processing, various factors are crucial for both the material removal and the quality of the processed surface. These factors influence absorption, heating behavior, and plasma expansion both during and after the pulse impact. By temporally modulating the energy deposition in the form of varied pulse shapes, pre- and post-heating pulses, as well as bursts, the aim is to increase the removal rate while simultaneously reducing surface roughness.
