Product details
The book on the great state exhibition: Between 1414 and 1418, the city of Constance was the center of European politics. The Council of Constance aimed to resolve the schism in the Church, at least for the moment. It is remembered sadly, primarily due to the burning of Jan Hus, who was condemned as a heretic. The council not only made world history but was also a major event of extraordinary significance: the city witnessed the deposition of three popes and the election of a new one over four years, tens of thousands of visitors, 700 prostitutes, and countless festivities. It is said that so much money was spent that Constance became the richest city in southern Germany. The book sheds light on the background and the course of the council. The events surrounding the church assembly are placed both in a global historical context and within the city of Constance and the southwestern German region.
